Freshman Interest Group (FIG)

The McCoy College Freshman Interest Group (FIG) is part of the Department of Residence Life's FIG program. Activities for the FIG are overseen by the McCoy College Academic Advising Center. The group of 8-16 freshmen students have opportunities to block enroll in the same courses and live in the same section of their assigned residence hall. The FIG has a Peer Assistant (PA) who is an upperclassman in the McCoy College that supports the FIG and lives on the same floor in the residence hall.  The FIG offers several professional development activities. 

 

Eligibility for the Business FIG

Students must apply to be a part of the FIG.  To be eligible to apply to the FIG you must have been admitted to the McCoy College.  For a list of other FIG's please visit Residence Life

The Business FIG Experience

The FIG provides a unique experience for students to become involved in their field of study.  
Required activities:

  • Enrollment in the blocked FIG courses
  • Attendance at all planned meetings and activities
  • Year-long team project and presentation
  • Portfolio
  • Community service project (Bobcat Build)

 

Application for the Business FIG

Applicants to the program are reviewed by committee and chosen based on strength of application. A strong applicant: 1) demonstrates an interest in getting involved at Texas State, 2) has stated goals for his/her education at Texas State, 3) is willing to work towards those goals, and 4) is able to tie those goals into his/her reasons for seeking to be a part of the FIG program.

Procedures

The application period for the 2008/2009 FIG has ended.  Procedures for the 2009/2010 FIG will be posted in early 2009. 

Frequently Asked Question: What if I do not know if I am admitted to McCoy College yet?

Go ahead and submit your FIG application.  Since applications are not processed until after McCoy College decisions are made, students not admitted to the College will be removed from the applicant pool during processing.
