Email Policy

All currently enrolled McCoy College students are required to have an active Texas State email address and check it regularly.  McCoy College uses the email address for important announcements, some official correspondence, and newsletters.

Texas State considers email to be a significant information resource and an appropriate mechanism for official university communication. The University provides official university email addresses and services to its students for this purpose and to enhance the efficiency of educational and administrative processes. In providing these services, the University anticipates that email recipients will access and read university communications in a timely fashion. Students may forward email from their official university address to an alternate email address at their own risk, however, the university is not responsible for email that has been forwarded to any other address.

Information on setting up a Texas State email address may be found here:

Additionally, currently enrolled students are required to use their Texas State email address when corresponding with an advisor.  This requirement helps to ensure student confidentiality.

The following are important guidelines for emailing an advisor:

  • All correspondence with an advisor must also include the student's Texas State ID number.
  • Students should understand that advisors do not provide academic advising via email.  At his or her discretion the advisor may require that some questions submitted on email be addressed during a scheduled appointment.
  • All correspondence should be properly constructed and contain enough details for the advisor to best assist the student.
